About me
Chef Scott Horne is a dedicated culinary arts educator at Smithfield High School in Isle of Wight County. Drawing on years of professional kitchen experience, he inspires his students to explore creativity, master culinary techniques, and embrace the shared human connection found in every meal. Recognized for “providing others with the strength and confidence to take action,” Chef Horne was honored with the Empower Isle Award, highlighting his commitment to building supportive learning environments where young chefs can thrive.
Under Chef Horne’s leadership, the Smithfield High Culinary Arts program executes about 15–20 invoiced catered events each year, generating between $5,000 and $15,000 annually, with an additional $4,100 raised through a student-driven meal service for teachers. Thanks to these initiatives, students have paid $0 for any extracurricular activity during his tenure, ensuring they can pursue competitions, field trips, and hands-on learning without financial barriers. By weaving global food traditions into practical training, Chef Horne encourages students to appreciate diverse flavors, hone their skills, and cultivate a lifelong passion for the culinary field.
A proud resident of Smithfield, Virginia, Chef Horne lives with his wife and two children, Lahna and Shepard. His commitment to hospitality, education, and community underscores his belief that food, culture, and collaboration are essential ingredients for student success and personal growth.
